In September, NGIoT and partners hosted some exciting events with top-level speakers on the Next Generation Internet of Things. This Newsflash contains information about events around the IoT community that took place during September. This issue also presents all the funding opportunities (Open Calls) that will be available since September 1st.
The 1st ASSIST-IoT Open Call is officially announced and starts at 1st of November! The ASSIST-IoT project has reserved part of the project budget to fund specific activities in order to enhance and improve IoT features and applications and boost the NGIoT community across Europe. Third parties are expected to come along and carry out relevant actions during the project’s life cycle.
Carlos Guardiola (Universitat Politècnica de València UPV) presented the ASSIST-IoT paper “From OBD to Connected Diagnostics: A Game Changer at Fleet, Vehicle and Component Level” at 6th IFAC Conference on Engine and Powertrain Control, Simulation and Modeling (E-COSM 2021), August 23-25, 2021, which took place in Tokyo, Japan.

On Thursday May 27, 2021, 2:30 PM, ASSIST-IoT innovation manager Ángel Martínez Cavero presented ASSIST-IoT Project in the session “Architectures and building blocks for ports and maritime logistics data platforms” of the “Unleashing the potential of ports and maritime logistics via data-driven solutions: Opportunities and Challenges” workshop (organised by DataPorts) at the Data Week 2021.
ASSIST-IoT Technical Report #6, entitled “From OBD to Connected Diagnostics: A Game Changer at Fleet, Vehicle and Component Level.”, by: ASIST-IoT partners C Guardiola, C Vigild, F de Smet and K Schusteritz has been published. Early on-board diagnostics (OBD) standards were enforced in 1988 and, by the beginning of the XXI century, all major automotive markets require some sort of OBD. Over the years, the diagnostics software layer has grown in complexity, yet robust fault detection remains a challenging task: insufficient memory and computation power, suboptimal calibration, and the lack of sufficient real-life operation data for model development are some of the limiting factors.
EU-IoT in collaboration with H2020 ICT-56 IoT projects is organising its second training workshops on IoT and the Tactile Internet titled: “Enabling the Tactile Internet with IoT”. The workshop will present IoT’s potential in enabling tactile internet applications that break time & space boundaries, leveraging on technologies like Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality. ASSIST-IoT partner, Piotr Dymarski (Mostostal) took place on the workshop. He also presented the “Use of Tactile Internet and Augmented Reality in the Construction Industry”.
